Mountainbiking in Osterode
Osterode am Harz is located on the southwestern edge of the Oberharz in a valley between the Harz and Harz foreland. If you follow the Söse river, which flows through the town, up the valley, you will reach the Söse-Talsperre and later in the direction the Acker ridge in the Hochharz. There are difficult trails and great views. Mountainbikers can also expect many trails in the area around Osterode through deciduous forest, quarries, field marrow and spruce forests. Routes in Osterode usually start with a long ascent or you need a well knowledge about the area in order to use alternatives. As a starting point, Osterode is a recommendable alternative compared to the rest of the Harz. Osterode is less recommended for a mountainbike holiday because the location is less attractive for mountainbikers due to the lack of hotels for mountainbikers and bike rental stations.
