Track Overview Sperbehaier dam route

Sperbehaier dam route

Mountainbike tour with a start in Torfhaus, a long descent and insights into the UNESCO world heritage Oberharzer Wasserregal: The tour circles the area around Torfhaus and leads down to the water reservoir Okertalsperre with a relaxed descent. After a short ascent, it goes on top of some hills through extensive spruce forests near Altenau. A highlight of the tour is the Sperbehaier Damm, which is part of the UNESCO World Heritage 'Oberharzer Wasserregal'. The dam is an aqueduct built in the 18th century and was used to transport water from one of the largest leat system canals of the Harz mountains over a valley to plateau around Clausthal-Zellerfeld. The tour then leads uphill with wide views to the Sösetal on the Acker mountain. Along the Bruchberg (927m high) it goes through the untouched nature of the Hochharz in the Nationalpark Harz back to Torfhaus.
